Native Tongue
Native Tongue was born out of love for everything homemade and natural, interwoven with the tastes of our childhood and memories of a time gone by. The mango tree in the backyard that never stopped giving, the bhaiya who waited for outside school
with sliced guavas mixed with namak-mirchi and the cloyingly sweet marzipans lovingly gifted by everyone's favourite Christian aunty in the the neighbourhood. We also wish to put the spotlight on India’s delicious indigenous produce.
We realize the importance of eating local, seasonal and what was growing in our own backyard. And we want to give the Indian farmer his due. Native tongue's range of products includes slow jams, fruit cordials, stone-ground nut butter, dessert sauces and savoury spreads, all made with our signature recipes and locally sourced ingredients. Sustainability is our primary concern, and we take all the effort to make a difference–hence all our packaging is almost completely plastic-free!
And our entire selection is handcrafted and 100% natural.

At Native Tongue, we have embarked on a journey to bring the lesser ingredients of India into the spotlight. A quick glance around a local supermarket, we noticed that “gourmet” equalled “exotic” which further equalled “imported”. While kiwi, balsamic vinegar, goji berries, and Mexican paprika held a place of pride, the local specialities like Nagpur oranges, kokum, mango ginger, and local chillies were either restricted or unavailable in the mainstream market. We set out to develop
an Indian ingredient-forward brand with a contemporary spin which will enable the agricultural jewels of India to find their rightful place in the “gourmet” category. I decided to launch a pilot of 5 flavours with our ingredient-forward vision. We spent a year in product sampling through trade fairs, and flea markets around the city and the response was more than encouraging. We would often be sold out very quickly. Our concept was very well received, by a diverse audience across strata and age groups. We formalized the brand in 2019 under the branding native tongue with a motto of celebrating the diverse produce of India, one jar at a time.

While we use only glass jars to package our flavours and talk about ways to repurpose them, we ensure that they’re shipped in an absolutely secure, yet plastic-free method. Hence, our cardboard packaging is quite a joyful surprise for our customers.
